I have worked as a primary school teacher since 1999. I have enjoyed meeting and teaching children in many schools in South Wales. My paintings are a snap-shot of everyday life based in classrooms, on the yard, they reflect the interplay between children and in their games and their work.

I try to give a sense of time and of place in the images which also convey universal themes in school life. I am inspired by celebrations and events that punctuate the school calender such as the start of the new school year; Christmas concerts;sports day and all the hard work going on in class in between.

I have taught at Nanyffyllon Primary school which has quite a traditional school building and at St. Davids Primary School in Colwinston which is much more open plan and rural in it's setting. Each school has entirely it's own character which is defined by it's own community. but at the heart of school is the children's experiences.

I love the excitement and the colour of school life, which will continue to inspire my work. I am influenced by artistic endeavours of children; the work of Edward Bawden and the post-war designers; and also by David Hockney and Peter Blake.
